Keeping track of your livestock doesn’t have to be a pain in the neck – or ear. In fact, by utilising the latest technology, you can reap a lot more benefits than just knowing the current location and whereabouts of your animals.
By utilising an Electronic Identification (EID) tag or device, counting livestock, can become a significantly easier and time-saving activity. The EID contains a microchip that can be read electronically in a fraction of a second by farmers who have a suitable reader/platform. With electronic reading, transcription errors can be eliminated saving both time and labour in the paddocks while increasing the accuracy of the information.

Covering our tracks
Farmdeck has developed an automated counting and identification system for livestock, removing the need to manually count livestock every few months.
The solution consists of Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) that is carried on ear tags. The RFID sheep ear tags are designed and manufactured by our team, and an electronic reader, which is installed on one of your paddock’s gates, captures the RFID data up to 2km, which is perfect for when you move your livestock from a paddock to another through a gate.
Through the Farmdeck app, you can see exactly which animal has gone through the gate and which animal is missing.
More than just a location tracking device
Designed to integrate seamlessly with the Farmdeck app, our advanced livestock sensor (ear tag) provides real-time animal tracking through GPS capabilities. It enables farmers to:
– Monitor Location in Real-Time: Track the precise location of livestock across your paddocks.
– Health & Activity Insights: Assess health metrics and activity levels, including movement patterns (stationary, walking, running) and stress indicators.
– Geofencing Alerts: Receive instant notifications if an animal breaches paddock boundaries, ensuring prompt action to prevent escapes.
What makes our sensors so unique are the numerous benefits it offers, like:
- GPS location and heading.
- Animal health tracking records – link all data to your animals (like weight gain, breeding history, vaccine and parasite control history, supplement history, pregnancy scanning data, etc.) This allows you to track bloodlines for pedigree matching more easily, use weight info to meet market standards, and more.
- Animal behaviour alerts – receive alert notifications to track any suspicious movement or activity.
- Geofencing – Our solar powered ear tag tracks the location and movement of your livestock in real-time.
- Activity – understand your herd behaviours (i.e. are they congregating in certain areas of the paddocks? Discover why, etc).
- Anti-theft.
- The tag is light weight in design, for optimal comfort and long-term use.
- Double prong livestock ear tag. This significantly increases tag retention and ensures the tag does not twist, making it more comfortable for the animal.
- Our sensor is made from PC (polycarbonate) and TPE – providing design flexibility, improved comfort and functionality.
